On February 1, 2010, the United
States Navy confirmed that the sunken submarine discovered in the
On August 13, 1944, the
USS Flier struck a mine and quickly
sank. Fourteen of 86 crewmembers escaped, but only eight survived the long
swim to reach shore.

Grand Haven,
In the spring of 2009, with the
aid of the Jacobson family, father and son divers Mike and Warren Fletcher of
the TV show “Dive Detectives” captured the first views of the sunken submarine
in more than 64 years. Yap Films provided the footage taken to aid in the
identification.
